This Felix for Strasburg and Hanley trade made me think back
to another trade involving the same two managers and one common player almost
two years ago. Looking back on that trade and my analysis, here’s what I
gathered:
1. I’ve been100%
correct so far about the Felix/Wright trade on May 26, 2013. Let’s look at the
numbers from May 27 until the end of last season.
Wright
2013
May 27 on… 83-269, .309, 11 HR, 31 RBI
2014
144-535, .269, 8 HR, 63 RBI (Dropped by Richie midseason)
Felix
2013
May 27 on…129 IP 50 ER, 3.49 ERA, 135 K
2014
236 IP, 56 ER, 2.14 ERA (career low), 248 K (career high)
2. I apologize to
Richie for such a strong criticism of the move. I was speaking (or in this case
writing) irrationally thanks to prior events that led up to the trade and was
admittedly a little heated. In the future, no comments directed at a manager
regarding a player acquisition will be nearly as harsh or offensive.
3. Turns out the
trade didn’t actually negatively affect Richie in any way. Despite keeping
Wright and then dropping him midseason, Richie still had an insane lineup and obviously
went on to win the title. Imagine if he had Felix last year I guess? Oh well,
he just got him back so hopefully for Richie’s sake he continues his dominance
and doesn’t make me look like a fool.
